The Conqueror Virtual Challenges

26 fantasy worlds delivered as production-ready maps

We partnered with The Conqueror to bring 26 licensed fantasy and pop-culture worlds — including Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Witcher, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Avengers and Toy Story — to their global challenge platform. Each fictional world was georeferenced to preserve spatially-correct distances and rendered as optimized vector and raster tilesets. Beyond the cartography, we engineered a custom integration that deployed the maps into their production environment and fit cleanly into their existing web and mobile stack.

Raw Nature Experience NGO — VisitCugir

An end-to-end trail-mapping platform for a regional tourism initiative

We partnered with the Raw Nature Experience NGO to promote the Cugir region through an interactive map of its hiking, trail-running and mountain-biking routes. We mapped and georeferenced every trail and point of interest, then designed the map UI/UX — including satellite and 3D views and a per-route detail panel with difficulty, distance, elevation gain and recommended equipment. We built and integrated the complete solution into their website, ready for their team to extend as new routes are added.

AI4DA — AI 4 Development Agency

A global, filterable map of AI-policy assessments

AI4DA catalogues AI-related policy assessments from around the world to understand how they address society and, in particular, young people. We worked closely with their team to standardize their dataset and make it geo-ready, then designed and built an interactive map that visualizes assessments per country as a choropleth. Users can filter by country, organization sector, year of issue, focus area and target group, with a linked panel surfacing the details of each assessment.

AreBaltaPește — a Mapcherry open-source project

The open map of Romania’s fishing waters

Romania’s public and private fishing waters had no proper map or geospatial representation. We built one: digitising scanned records and Excel files, then manually validating and mapping every fishing area in professional GIS software to produce a clean, accurate geodata set. Along the way we contributed the missing ponds, lakes and rivers back to OpenStreetMap — an ongoing effort to improve the open map for everyone. Each spot is enriched with as much detail as possible — reservation phone numbers for private waters, directions, surface area and more — and for selected locations we integrated custom drone imagery for a true-to-life aerial view. The platform is designed, hosted and supported by Mapcherry for Romania’s fishing community, drawing close to a million visits over the past six months.

Visit Cugir
As an NGO which is trying to promote an area that is not necessarily well known in our country, we needed a map that would help us in doing so. More specifically, we were trying to promote mountain trails that are fit for hiking, trail running as well as MTB. Furthermore, we needed a tool that would allow us to not only highlight the trails, but also give a little bit of information about the level of difficulty, positive elevation and appropriate gear/essentials. In addition, we wanted to be able to update these informations and add new trails in real time. The interaction with the MapCherry team was very smooth. As none of our NGO members had any experience in this area, the guys at MapCherry kind of translated our needs and turned them in what we can say is exactly what we needed. I would say that they definitely understood the assignment 🙂 As soon as we were able to provide the GPX tracks that they needed, everything went as good as it can get. They were efficient in adapting and integrating everything on our website. We do not always work with fix and strict deadlines, but in this case we had to, as we were granted the funds by a public institution. We were very pleased about the fact that the project was finished early, and that gave us the time to address the eventual bugs we came across so that we delivered a complete, bugfree 🙂 map. The services definitely satisfied our needs and we sincerely applaud the efficiency of the team.

The Conqueror Virtual Challenges
The Conqueror offers participants an immersive experience virtually travelling along routes across the globe based on distances they cover through exercise using google maps. However, when we secured the license to create a Lord of the Rings set of challenges through middle-earth we needed to find an alternative solution to map a fantasy location whilst providing spatially correct distances. We worked with Dorin and Armin for 6 months who provided expert development and assistance with geo-referencing to deliver an amazing LoTR map that translates across mobile and desktop layouts. Mapcherry experimented with a number of new techniques to find the best approach in displaying the different landmarks and geographical features to achieve the effects that our designers envisaged. They were able to work with our development and design teams to accurately convert digital assets into usable mapping vector and raster tilesets, while exceeding map performance requirements. Mapcherry showed a deep understanding of the overall requirements of the project and went above and beyond to assist the team and make sure the project was the result we collectively wanted it to be. Would absolutely recommend.
